Overview
Instructional assistants are responsible for the supervision of students with special needs under the direction of their classroom teacher. These duties may include small group academic instruction, implementation of classroom and individual behavior plans, assisting students in the bathroom (diaper changing and/or supervision), assisting students on and off of the bus, and direct supervision and assistance in the lunchroom and playground.
Instructional assistants must be able to lift 50 lbs and get up and down from the floor easily. 25 hours per week.
Must complete Basic Training (5 hours) provided by JSD Special Education Department. Training must be completed within one week of hire as a condition of employment.
Additional 40 hours of training is available through the Special Education department allowing the employee to increase to lane 5 upon completion. Training must be completed within six (6) months from hire date as a condition of employment.
