Location:

Main Campus – UCR.

Salary Range: $57,700 – $99,300 (expected $56,000 – $96,400).

Schedule:

Monday–Friday, 8 am–5 pm (Full‑time).

Position Summary

The Coordinator develops, manages, oversees, and evaluates the Outdoor Excursions program, including the Outdoor Excursions Shop, Adventure Trips & Events, Equipment Rentals, Wilderness and Remote First Aid certifications, Leadership Development, and Driver and Trailer training. Key duties involve risk management, staffing and supervision, program development and implementation, and maintenance of facilities and equipment. The role collaborates with departmental, divisional, campus, and community partners to deliver client‑service‑based programming aligned with university goals.

Requirements

Educational Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience/training.
  • Advanced degree in Outdoor Education, Recreation Administration, Leisure Studies, Student Personnel Administration, Higher Education, or a related field preferred.
Certifications
  • Red Cross CPR (required).
  • Standard First Aid Training (required).
  • Wilderness First Responder (WFR) (required).
  • Wilderness and Remote First Aid Instructor (required).
  • Rock Climbing Certification (PCIA or AMGA) preferred.
  • Leave No Trace Master Educator Certification preferred.
  • Driver/Trailer Training preferred.
Experience Requirements
  • 6–10 years related experience in outdoor programming, including risk‑management, staff supervision, equipment maintenance, and student development.
  • Experience leading and teaching outdoor skills and supervising participants in potentially hazardous and extreme environmental conditions.
  • Professional experience in university outdoor programming (equipment rentals, adventure trips, facilitation) preferred.
License Requirements
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record; enrollment in the California Employer Pull Notice Program may be required.
Special Conditions
  • FBI and DOJ Criminal Check required.
  • Shift work and travel outside normal business hours required.
  • Discretion in handling sensitive information and compliance with data‑protection policies.

  • Advanced computer proficiency and familiarity with risk‑management practices.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, capable of working across the organization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and oversee social, cultural, recreational and physical activities.
  • Supervise, train, and evaluate student staff; manage payroll assistance and disciplinary processes.
  • Manage equipment, facilities, and budget, ensuring maintenance and safety standards.
  • Develop and implement publicity, promotional programs, and website content.
  • Research and implement risk‑management guidelines; collaborate with department risk‑management staff.
  • Provide technical leadership, guidance, and mentorship to staff and students.
  • Develop programmatic and budget recommendations; plan and assess program goals and objectives.
  • Update and maintain certification and training records; conduct instructor classes.
  • Enforce program policies, evaluate compliance, and adjust procedures as necessary.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
