Overview
The Riverside County Department of Waste Resources is seeking to fill multiple Maintenance and Construction Worker (MCW) positions throughout Riverside County, including at Badlands Landfill in Moreno Valley and Lamb Canyon Landfill in Beaumont. Competitive candidates will have a strong maintenance construction background and heavy manual labor experience using various hand and power tools, while also operating light to medium construction equipment.
Responsibilities include appliance removal, hazardous material removal, grounds maintenance, graffiti removal, facilities maintenance, and cleaning illegally dumped trash/litter on county-owned roadways.
- Construct and maintain roads, fencing, flood control channel walls and levees, and culverts.
- Perform construction, maintenance and recycling work at refuse disposal sites; spray and cut weeds; patch holes in black top roads; clear roads, channels, and other facilities of storm debris and damage.
- Install signs; chop and clear brush; mix and pour concrete; erect traffic and street signs.
- Use a variety of hand and power tools; operate dump trucks to load, haul and deliver debris and materials; operate water spray trucks, loaders, mowers and other light motorized equipment.
- Perform traffic direction, set up and maintain traffic signs at refuse disposal sites.
One year of performing construction work or field maintenance work (e.g., roads, flood control facilities, refuse sites, recycling facilities, public works projects or closely related work) which required operation of light trucks and related construction equipment.
Knowledge ofThe operation and maintenance of trucks and light motorized equipment; equipment and traffic safety procedures; the tools and materials commonly used in field maintenance, recycling, or construction work.
Ability toSafely operate trucks and light motorized equipment; perform a variety of semi‑skilled maintenance or construction tasks; operate power saws, chippers, and a variety of hand tools; follow oral and written instructions.
Other RequirementsPossession of a valid Class C California Driver’s License at the time of application as the incumbent will be driving a county vehicle daily throughout Riverside County.
Physical RequirementsThe majority of this position will entail working outdoors in inclement weather conditions (rain, sleet, wind and summer temperatures exceeding 115 degrees Fahrenheit). Prolonged physical exertions, including standing 5-8 hours, lifting tools, traffic signs, appliances, waste, carrying, reaching, bending, pushing, pulling, and climbing.
Department of TransportationFor those positions designated by the Department of Transportation (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below). safety‑sensitive, applicants are required to complete a DOT mandated alcohol and drug screening. (A positive test or refusal to test during the past two years will disqualify an applicant from consideration for County employment). Reference checks from former DOT regulated employers are also required. Applicants must submit a Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) driving record prior to hire.
Employees in safety‑sensitive positions are subject to DOT alcohol/drug testing in the following situations: random, reasonable suspicion/cause, return‑to‑duty, and post‑accident.
