The County of Riverside – Riverside University Health System (RUHS) – Community Health Clinics is seeking a Per Diem Licensed Vocational Nurse II to join the CHC‑RAPPLE‑Riverside Neighborhood team located in Riverside. Under the supervision and direction of a registered nurse, nurse practitioner, or physician, perform nursing duties within the scope of the Nurse Practice Act for vocational nursing in a hospital inpatient setting or outpatient clinic.
Per‑diem personnel receive additional compensation in lieu of County fringe benefits and work assignments are flexibly scheduled or on an on‑call basis. Licenses and Certification Required
- California Vocational Nurse's License issued by the California Board of Vocational Nurse and Psychiatric Technician Examiners
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- An active phlebotomy license that must be blood‑withdrawal certified by the Board of CA Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians
- May require occasional driving as staff will float to other CHCs when the need arises

- Provide nursing care to patients within the scope of the Nurse Practice Act for vocational nursing; prepare patients for physicians, physician assistants and nurse practitioners; administer medications via subcutaneous, intramuscular, intradermal, subdermal, and/or oral methods.
- Take temperature, pulse, respiration and blood pressure; apply and change dressings; collect specimens for laboratory analysis; assist physicians, registered nurses, and mid‑level providers in examinations, tests, respiratory care and other treatment including minor surgical procedures, PAP smears and colposcopies.
- Perform venipuncture and immunations for pediatrics and adults, including tuberculin, coccidioidin and histoplasmin skin tests as part of a tuberculosis control program.
- Perform documentation required by the Nurse Practice Act; chart treatments, medications, maintain pertinent medical records; collect data to ensure appropriate scheduling; maintain clinical records, reports and charge tickets; review charts to determine treatment type and assure proper clinic scheduling and continuity of care.
- Counsel, advise and educate patients regarding proper health care methods; set clinic appointments per established policies; refer patients for specialty care to outside Integer agencies utilizing knowledge of payor source to ensure appropriate referrals.
- Assist physicians, registered nurses, and mid‑level providers in special treatments, examinations and intravenous therapy; chart treatments and maintain medical records according to established policies and procedures.
- Assist physicians, registered nurses, and mid‑level providers in administration of medical records; assist in data collection, preparation, and implementation of patient care plans; participate in patient education and rehabilitation programs; document data appropriately.
