SUMMARY: Responsible for covering clinical offices based on operational need. Assists in the examination and treatment of patients, takes vital signs, records patient charges and history, and assists in minor office procedures. Participates in patient education, communicates effectively with others, and functions within the scope of practice. Demonstrates thorough knowledge of infection control and aseptic techniques. Must be willing to work at varied locations.

Qualifications

EDUCATION and/or

EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required. Current California licensure as a Licensed Vocational Nurse. Graduate of an accredited school of Licensed Vocational Nursing. Two years’ experience preferred working as an LVN in a multi‑specialty group setting.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS: Current California LVN License, Current AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professional (AHA BLS Healthcare) – American Heart Association Certification and IV Certification required. Current ACLS Certification (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – American Heart Association preferred.

Essential Functions
  • Cooperate in the cross‑training of the position to ensure coverage at all times for all offices.
  • Interview patients; measure vital signs, pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height; record information on the patient’s chart.
  • Prepare treatment room for examination of patients; assist physician with procedures; clean examination room and sterilize equipment after use.
  • Explain procedures and treatments to patients and their families to gain cooperation, understanding, and allay apprehension.
  • Administer prescribed medication orally or by injection (subcutaneous, intramuscularly, intradermally) and document time, dosage, and route on the patient’s chart. Observe patient and report any adverse reactions.
  • Administer treatments and perform routine laboratory tests under supervision of a physician, allied health professional, or RN.
  • Initiate intravenous lines, add plain IV fluids to existing lines, and discontinue lines under the direction of a physician or allied health professional (must be IV certified).
  • Perform electrocardiograph (EKG), pulse oximetry, inhalation treatments, and operate other equipment as certified.
  • Travel between departments and facilities as needed based on coverage requirements. Inventory and order medical supplies and materials as needed.
  • Operate within the LVN scope of practice and Riverside Medical Clinic policies and procedures.
  • Ensure all expired sample medications and patient supplies are discarded upon expiration date.
  • Maintain current California LVN licensure and BLS certificate.
