SUMMARY: Responsible for covering clinical offices based on operational need. Assists in the examination and treatment of patients, takes vital signs, records patient charges and history, and assists in minor office procedures. Participates in patient education, communicates effectively with others, and functions within the scope of practice. Possesses thorough knowledge of infection control and aseptic techniques.

HOURS: Monday – Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:30 PM

Qualifications

EDUCATION and/or

EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or GED required. Current California licensure as a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN). Graduate of an accredited school of Licensed Vocational Nursing. Two years of experience preferred, preferably in a multi‑specialty group setting.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS: Current California LVN license;
Current AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professionals (AHA BLS Healthcare); IV Certification required;
Current ACLS Certification preferred.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Cooperates in cross‑training of this position to ensure coverage at all times for all offices.
  • Interviews patients; measures vital signs (pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height); records information on patient’s chart.
  • Prepares treatment rooms for patient examination; assists physicians with procedures; cleans and sterilizes examination rooms and equipment after use.
  • Explains procedures and treatments to patients and their families to gain cooperation, understanding, and allay apprehension.
  • Administers prescribed medication orally or by injection (subcutaneous, intramuscular, intradermal) and documents time, dosage, and route on the patient’s chart; observes patient and reports any adverse reactions.
  • Performs routine laboratory tests under the supervision of a physician, allied health professional, or RN.
  • Initiates intravenous lines, adds plain IV fluids to existing lines, and discontinuates lines under direction of a physician or allied health professional (must be IV certified).
  • Performs electrocardiograms (EKG), pulse oximetry, inhalation treatments, and operates other equipment as certified.
  • Travels between departments and facilities on an as‑needed basis based on coverage requirements; inventories and orders medical supplies and materials as needed.
  • Functions within the LVN scope of practice and Riverside Medical Clinic policies and procedures.
  • Ensures all expired sample medications and patient supplies are discarded upon expiration date.
