Executive Director of Artificial Intelligence
Information Technology Solutions at UC Riverside is seeking a strategic and technical Executive Director of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to lead our artificial intelligence and data science initiatives.
The role involves acting as both a technical strategist and a hands‑on expert, partnering with leaders across ITS and the campus to bring high‑impact projects to life. As a key technical leader, you will build and mentor a team of AI professionals and serve as a technical enabler for our development teams. You will drive the adoption of AI across the campus by empowering teams to integrate AI capabilities into their work—including embedding AI within custom applications, reporting, or intelligent agents—and maintain a constant pulse on solutioning to embed AI within existing products, processes, and initiatives.

- Act as a proactive technical strategist and hands‑on expert in AI and data science.

- Current U.S. work authorization for acceptance as a UCR staff member.
- Proven experience leading AI or data science initiatives within an academic or large enterprise setting.
- Strong technical background in AI, machine learning, and data engineering.
- Demonstrated ability to build and mentor high‑performing technical teams.
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills.
- Commitment to UCR’s policies and collective bargaining agreements.

Employment type:
Full‑time (predominantly remote, occasional on‑campus visits as needed)
• Working hours based on Pacific Standard Time (PST)
• Salary range: $126,700 – $248,700 annually (up to $230,000 depending on experience and qualifications)
Applicants must have current work authorization when accepting a UCR staff position. UCR is currently unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa for staff.
Compliance with all applicable University policies and/or collective bargaining agreements is required.
