Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest is one of the largest providers of sexual and reproductive healthcare in Southern California. We operate 20 health centers throughout our three-county region.
Medical Assistant IIJoin a team that delivers high‑quality, compassionate reproductive health care. The Medical Assistant II will support clinicians and physicians in providing reproductive health services, assist with exams, testing, and client education, prepare exam rooms, and help ensure every visit runs smoothly. Your role will include providing excellent, non‑judgmental care so every client feels seen, heard, and supported.
Compensation: $23.00 to $23.75 per hour. Flex positions will receive an additional differential rate and mileage reimbursement.
Qualifications- High School diploma or equivalent
- Graduate of an accredited medical assistant program or Certified Nursing Assistant program
- 2 years comparable clinical back‑office medical assistant experience (Long‑Term Care, Care Partners, Medication Technicians) or experience in women’s healthcare (preferred)
- 2 years experience as a health educator, STD and/or HIV prevention counselor, community/public health worker, or family planning educator (women’s healthcare preferred)
- Bachelor’s degree
- Adhere to affiliate goals and policies on professionalism, wait times, and client complaints
- Participate in health center efforts to achieve established productivity and quality metrics
- Participate in revenue cycle goals
- Obtain medical history, interview and educate clients ensuring informed consent
- Perform basic lab work (Hgb, pregnancy test, urine dipsticks, venipuncture, injections); package specimens for outside labs and record results
- Obtain vital signs and clean and sterilize equipment and stock lab and exam rooms
- Assist clinicians as needed; manage sensitive topics such as rape, STIs, sexual activity risks, and abortions
- Monitor center flow and client wait times
- Input and update client data in the Agency’s Practice Management and Electronic Medical Record systems
- Coordinate front‑office functions: greet clients, answer phones, refer calls, and make appointments
- Assess client finances, verify insurance and health plan authorization, collect fees and donations per Agency guidelines, and reconcile billing daily
- Schedule appointments for family planning including contraceptives and abortion services; provide abortion referral and education; provide sterilization education
- Assist and support clinical staff in providing contraceptive services, medication abortion services, colposcopy services, and maintain safety policies and procedures
- Attend trainings, staff meetings, and in‑services to maintain and increase knowledge of protocols and procedures
- Ensure client satisfaction and prepare center for opening and secure for closing as required
