OverviewThe Medical Assistant / Patient Care Coordinator (Women's Health) performs medical, technical, and administrative support services to contribute to efficient day‑to‑day operations, providing a positive patient experience. Clinical duties may include escorting patients to exam rooms, taking and recording vital signs and medical histories, preparing patients for examination, assisting in procedures, preparing and administering medications and vaccines, collecting and processing laboratory specimens, addressing quality care gaps, and other duties as directed by the provider.
Administrative duties include scheduling appointments in tandem with provider availability, greeting patients at check‑in, collecting patient information, updating electronic records, handling payments, ensuring exam room inventory is adequate, and performing various clinic administrative tasks. The role may require the secure authorization of medications.
This position is primarily assigned to a specific work location but may also float to other UCR Health clinic locations. The employee may be required to work different shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Key Responsibilities- Direct Patient Care: Determine chief complaint, document it accurately, interview patients for medical history, measure vital signs, weight, and height, record data in the electronic medical record, identify and address quality measure gaps, escort patients to examination rooms, assist in treatments and exams (e.g., dressing changes, sutures, injections, splints), explain procedures and medications, prepare treatment rooms, and provide discharge instructions. - Contact Center: Greet patients, answer inquiries courteously, assist patients to avoid dissatisfaction, support patients’ anxieties, take messages, schedule appointments, record medication refills, and document conversations in the EMR. (Approximately 30 %)
- Medication Administration and Prescriptions: Prepare and administer medications per policy, authorize drug refills, coordinate prior authorizations and pharmacy deliveries, generate authorization for payor approval, and research pharmacy options based on payor requirements. (Approximately 10 %)
- Front Office Support: Re‑schedule appointments, optimize provider time, check in patients, manage arrival notifications, assist patients with appointment delays, escort patients to providers, and collect copays and balances. (Approximately 5 %)
- Electronic Medical Record (EMR) Maintenance: Update patient accounts, provide portal navigation assistance, monitor and respond to in‑basket messages. (Approximately 5 %)
- Laboratory / Specimen Collection and Processing: Perform routine point‑of‑care testing, collect specimens, log samples, retrieve lab results, and upload to the medical record. (Approximately 5 %)
- Other Duties: Participate in administrative and operational tasks related to patient care and clinic needs. (Approximately 5 %)

Qualification:
Certificate of Competency with documented training and competency as a medical assistant. - Experience Requirements: Experience in front‑ and back‑office duties; preferred experience in ambulatory multispecialty or primary care offices, a minimum of 2 years as a Medical Assistant, and prior EMR experience (preferably EPIC).
- Certification Requirements: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (required) and Current Medical Assistant Certification (preferred).
