Overview
The County of Riverside’s Planning Department has an opportunity for a GIS Technician II who will be assigned to the Administration division in Riverside.
The GIS Technician II performs technical Geographic Information Systems (GIS) tasks, including data input, maintenance, editing, and system analysis, and produces a variety of map reports. The GIS Technician II is also expected to maintain land use–related GIS layers and spatial data, produce both standard and project-specific maps, and provide day-to-day GIS support to planners and staff. Additionally, the GIS Technician II performs QA/QC on land use–related GIS data to ensure accuracy and integrity.
The GIS Technician II also publishes and maintains basic web maps and viewers and provides support for mobile and field GIS workflows, receiving guidance from higher levels within the series as needed.
- Experience maintaining land use–related GIS layers and spatial data, producing standard and project-specific maps, and performing QA/QC on GIS data.
- Experience publishing and maintaining basic web maps and viewers; experience supporting mobile and field GIS workflows is highly desirable.
- Proficiency in Arc Map, ArcGIS Online, and other GIS software; experience in local government or planning-related work is encouraged.
- Education:
None required. - Experience:
Three years of sub-professional or professional GIS experience. Completion of GIS, automated mapping, land surveying, geography, cartography, or computer science related coursework from an accredited college or university may substitute for up to two years of the required experience (30 semester or 45 quarter units = 1 year). - License:
Possession of a valid California Driver's License is required. - Knowledge:
Mathematics, including algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and statistics as applied to GIS work; automated drafting techniques; survey principles and methods. - Ability:
Apply GIS techniques; perform mathematical computations; tabulate and analyze data and prepare reports; keep clear notes; do simple drafting; follow oral and written directions; work cooperatively with others.
