Senior Surveyor / Senior Land Surveyor – County of Riverside Transportation Department
Opening for a Senior Surveyor/Senior Land Surveyor assigned to the County Surveyor Division in Riverside. Field unit throughout Riverside; may rotate to office.
Responsibilities- Field Party Chief: supervise preliminary boundary, design, topographic, GPS, geodetic, right-of-way, photogrammetric, construction surveys. Process field notes.
- Reduce/analyze field observations. Familiar with opening/editing CADD data. Compute horizontal/vertical alignments. Cut sheets for construction staking. Land records research.
- Supervise 2–3-person survey crew on various jobs. Evaluate subordinate staff.
- Office tasks: supervise map preparation, map checking (Parcel, Tract, Records of Survey). Corner record checking. Minor land case review (Parcel Mergers, Lot Line Adjustments, Certificates of Compliance). Boundary analysis, historical/official records research. CADD drafting. Reduce/analyze field data. Compute horizontal alignments. Create 3-D surface models from survey points. Process drone data. Prepare plats and exhibits. Write/review legal descriptions for land acquisitions. Customer service.
Public research counter. Resolve boundary issues. - Lead and supervise staff in dynamic situations. Develop and train crew members. Communicate with County staff and contractors.
- Knowledge of local surveying principles per California Professional Land Surveyor’s Act. Complex field and office surveying work.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively lead and supervise staff.
- Experience in Civil 3D and Micro Station drafting platforms highly preferred.
- Education:
Associate’s degree in land surveying, civil engineering, or related field. Land Surveyor-in-Training certificate may substitute required education. - Experience:
Two years of land surveying in a lead capacity. - License/Certificate:
Valid California Driver’s License required. - Other Requirements:
Valid certificate of registration as a licensed Land Surveyor issued by BPELSG, or certificate of registration as a Civil Engineer issued before Jan 1, 1982 by State Board of Registration.
- Physical:
Field work involves lifting, carrying, operating survey equipment on uneven terrain. Field inspections alongside highways, roadways, construction sites, and other capital improvement project environments.
