Our Land Development Planning & Entitlement Department has an opening for a highly motivated Assistant Planner to assist in all aspects of our planning and entitlement projects which include Commercial, Industrial, and Residential Land Development as well as Advanced Planning. This position plays a vital role in delivering projects and meeting client expectations in our fast-paced, multidisciplined firm. There is opportunity for growth and is an ideal position for candidates who desire to learn as you interface with all facets of land development and planning services.
Education and/or professional experience in the preparation of complex planning documents such as Specific Plans, Comprehensive Plan Amendments, and Rezoning, as well as general knowledge of CEQA and associated technical studies is highly desirable. Minimum qualifications include a four-year degree in Planning or a related field and at least two years of work experience.
- Conduct project research which may include but not be limited to zoning, general plan, hazards, policies, agencies requirements, etc.
- Assist Sr. Planner in meeting client expectations, managing project schedules and deliverables, as well as preparing project proposals.
- Assist in resolving client and agency inquiries and perform research to support team and projects on all aspects of planning and entitlement.
- Attend meetings and establish professional relationships with clients and agencies.
- Have clear communication and follow up to obtain land use and planning approvals.
- Perform highly detailed work on multiple, concurrent tasks which may require collaboration with multiple disciplines and account for progress at all stages.
- Maintain and report on all aspects of project status.
- Establish and maintain tracking and filing systems for all aspects of the projects.
- Complete applications and submittals accurately and in a timely manner.
- Demonstrate cooperation and coordination of project information with clients, project team, and internal departments.
- Deliver documents to outside agencies and clients, if required.
- Maintain a high level of service for all clients and agencies.
- Arrange meetings, prepare agendas, take minutes, and distribute to project team, client, and agencies, with pro‑active follow up on outstanding issues and tasks to ensure projects' forward momentum.
- Previous experience within the Planning, Entitlement, Land Development, or Architectural industry a plus.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong organizational and problem‑solving skills.
- Excellent proofreading, spelling, and grammar skills and a desire to assist in the production of larger planning documents.
- Ability to work within a team and adjust to a variety of management and communication styles.
- Ability to present yourself in a professional manner at all times, both in demeanor and attire.
- Ability to manage and prioritize work.
- Desire to pursue certification and/or participate in professional development/organizations.
- California Driver's License with a good driving record.
Salary: $52,000 - $90,000 per year
