Position SummaryThe Assistant Teacher is responsible for creating a positive learning environment and stimulating critical thinking, problem solving, and decision-making with children.
Responsibilities- Assist in implementing the Creative Curriculum and CDE Standards for CCTR classrooms; prepare weekly lesson plans including indoor and outdoor activities, individualized, culturally rich, and aligned with California Department of Education standards.
- Document volunteer activities and parent communication regarding children’s functions and activities.
- Organize the classroom by developmental level and individual needs, creating trust, emotional security, and opportunities for sensory, motor, self‑awareness, autonomy, and self‑expression development.
- Ensure infant and toddler classrooms are home‑like, safe, sanitary, and free of clutter; provide diaper changing and toilet training in a safe manner.
- Build secure relationships with infants and toddlers, responding calmly and nurturingly to all interactions, and supervise children at all times.
- Observe children and record observations in anecdotal records; assist with developmental screenings; maintain updated checklists per program policies.
- Provide meals and snacks appropriate to age and developmental needs; conduct family‑style dining in accordance with program policy and CDE Standards.
- Involve parents in all aspects of the classroom, greeting them pleasantly and ensuring a smooth transition and partnership.
- Maintain professional communication with parents through various methods and send activities for home support; encourage parent participation in workshops.
- Maintain accurate attendance records, food reports, in‑kind reports, and other required documentation; participate in training and staff meetings; submit supply requests to the supervisor.
- Report to work at scheduled times, maintain good attendance, and perform all duties professionally with a positive attitude.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
- Minimum of 12 units in Early Childhood Education, including 3 units in Infant/Toddler and an Assistant Teacher Permit issued from CCTC.
- Previous experience working with infants and toddlers aged birth‑36 months.
- Proficient reading, writing, and verbal communication in proper English grammar.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and conflict‑resolution skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with staff and parents.
- Complete a physical examination (LIC 503) and provide proof of immunization for influenza, Tdap, MMR, and a current TB test.
- Submit satisfactory proof of identity and legal authorization to work in the United States; failure to submit prohibits hiring.
- Complete Child Abuse Mandated Reporter training (AB1207).
- Obtain a Criminal Record Clearance (DOJ/FBI/CACI).
The role requires regular talking or hearing, use of hands or fingers, handling objects and tools, and occasional standing, walking, or climbing. Employees may need to lift up to 35 pounds. The environment has moderate noise levels. Reasonable accommodations may be made for disabilities.
Compensation: $19 to $23 per hour
