Position Title: Assistant Professor, Physics (Riverside City College)

Position Type: Full‑Time, 10‑month tenure‑track faculty
Position SummaryResponsible for physics lecture and laboratory instruction at a community college. Candidates should demonstrate commitment to the department’s mission of educating a racially, ethnically, and socioeconomically diverse student population.
Qualifications- Minimum of one year (two semesters or three quarters) of experience teaching physics as instructor of record at a community college or baccalaureate‑level institution.
- Master’s in physics, astronomy, or astrophysics, or Bachelor’s in physics or astronomy plus Master’s in engineering, mathematics, meteorology, or geophysics (all degrees from accredited institutions), or equivalent.
- Recent experience working with African American, Latinx/Hispanic, Native American, and other racially/ethnically/minoritized students.
- Understanding of how historical patterns have shaped the experiences of marginalized students in higher education.
- Willingness to examine and refine instructional and relational practices to better engage and support diverse students.
- Experience and skill addressing equity issues in the classroom.
- None required for licenses or certifications.
- Deliver lecture and laboratory classes in physics.
- Participate in outcomes assessment work.
- Maintain a 40‑hour weekly workload including classes, preparation, evaluation, office hours, committee work, curriculum development, program review, student activities, and other duties per the bargaining unit agreement.
- Engage in institutional service activities expected of all faculty members.
- Participate in department decision‑making processes and curriculum development.
- Demonstrate commitment to student equity and facilitate programmatic efforts campus‑wide.
- Maintain professional conduct and ethics.
- Hold weekly office hours and complete 24 hours of flexible credit through available activities and seminars.
- Teaching schedules may include early morning, day, evening, online, hybrid, and/or off‑campus classes.
Salary range:
Column C, Step 1 to Column H, Step 6 ($88,002 to $135,587). Medical and dental benefits for employee and legal dependents. $50,000 life insurance policy.
Ten‑month, tenure‑track position. Full‑time teaching or equivalent experience. Orientation to college required. Adherence to policy. Broader knowledge of the academic area and pedagogy is expected.
