Position Overview
Assistant Professor, Physics (Riverside City College) – Department of Physical Science. Ten‑month, tenure‑track, full‑time faculty position. Salary range:
Column C (Step 1) to Column H (Step 6) of the current Faculty Salary Schedule. The position is located at Riverside, California.

ResponsibilitiesThe successful candidate will:
- Teach physics lecture and laboratory courses.
- Participate in outcomes assessment, curriculum and program development, and student learning outcomes assessment.
- Engage in faculty service, committee work, and departmental decision‑making.
- Maintain a workload of approximately 40 hours per week, including classes, preparation, student evaluation, office hours, and other duties.
- Facilitate student equity initiatives and lead programmatic efforts to support diverse student populations.
- Fulfill full‑time instructor duties, such as holding weekly office hours and completing 24 hours of required “flex credit” activities.
- Teach across a range of times and formats (early morning, day, evening, online, hybrid, or off‑campus).
Education:
- Master’s in physics, astronomy, or astrophysics; OR Bachelor's in physics or astronomy plus a Master’s in engineering, mathematics, meteorology, or geophysics; or equivalent.
Experience:
- At least one year (two semesters or three quarters) of teaching physics as instructor of record at a community college or baccalaureate‑level institution.
- Recent experience working with African American, Latinx/Hispanic, Native American, and other racially/ethnically and socioeconomically minoritized students.
- Demonstrated willingness to examine and refine instructional practices to enhance equity and inclusion.
The candidate must demonstrate sensitivity and understanding of the diverse backgrounds (academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, ethnic) of community college students and possess the ability to address equity issues in the classroom.
