Job SummaryUnder the direction of the area administrator, the Dean identifies, develops, implements, and evaluates comprehensive student services programs to support student success and holistic wellness. This includes strategic direction for services covering health, basic needs, civic engagement, wellness, and advocacy.
Responsibilities- Plan, coordinate, evaluate, and administer student services programs and lead the campus‑wide wellness education program.
- Guide and oversee campus‑wide harm reduction programming, student success, and intervention strategies incorporating mental health education principles.
- Oversee the development of resources, programs, events, and services to support students’ basic needs, including housing, food, mental health, and employment.
- Manage specific student services programs such as Disability Support Services and CalWORKS, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and other applicable laws.
- Serve as the disciplinary officer for the District Standards of Student Conduct Policy in collaboration with Office of Diversity, Equity, and Compliance.
- Enforce Board policy in the free‑speech area for the health and safety of the college and community.
- Develop and manage budgets (general fund, categorical, state, and federal) and supervise expenditures.
- Create, implement, and assess evidence‑based strategies to form optimal wellness programs.
- Lead, direct, supervise, and evaluate assigned staff; establish goals and ensure accountability.
- Ensure students are involved in shared governance and participate in college decision‑making processes.
- Coordinate and/or assist in the execution of college functions such as commencement and welcome days.
- Participate in local, regional, and state boards, committees, and councils to promote the District and community‑college movement.
- Act as a lead or active participant on standing college committees.
- Perform other related responsibilities as may be assigned.
Education
- Master’s degree from an accredited institution.
Experience and Other Requirements
- Four years of administrative and/or leadership experience directly related to this administrative assignment.
- Successful experience supervising student services programs.
- Within the last four years, at least two years of management or administration experience in settings that work predominantly with ethnic minorities or persons handicapped by language, social, or economic disadvantages; or experience as a community‑college counselor or instructor working with disadvantaged clientele.
- College‐level procedures and effective practices in student services.
- Federal and state regulations, district policies, and accreditation standards.
- Interpersonal relations, team‑building, conflict resolution, and customer service.
- Principles and practices of administration, supervision, and training.
- Planning, budget preparation, and control.
- Research techniques for large and complex educational settings.
- Approaches, theories, and strategies to address disparities in student success.
- Methods for developing presentations, business correspondence, and information distribution.
- Operation of Student Services with experience in equity‑focused services.
- Review situations accurately and determine appropriate action using judgment and policy knowledge.
- Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Work independently.
- Provide leadership and motivate others.
- Maintain an understanding of current ideas, trends, and practices through ongoing study and professional organization participation.
- Apply relevant California Education Code, Title 5, and federal regulations and district policy.
- Interpret, explain, and apply collective bargaining contracts, board policies, and administrative procedures.
- Work across institutional silos to collaborate with other campus units and ensure student‑centered principles guide all special programs.
