Job Description: The Latin American and Latino/a Studies Program at Smith College invites applications for a tenure‑track position in Latinx Studies at the rank of Advanced Assistant Professor to begin July 1st, 2026. A Ph.D. in the social sciences or Latinx Studies, two years of full‑time teaching experience or the equivalent at the rank of Instructor or above, and a robust publication record and/or plan are required.

Successful candidates should be prepared to engage actively with diverse students across the liberal arts. Teaching responsibilities for this position will regularly include an introductory course to Latinx Studies (100‑level) as well as colloquiums (200‑level) and seminars (300‑level) related to the candidate’s field of specialization. We are particularly interested in candidates whose research and teaching interests are grounded in the social sciences and the study of “biopolitics,” broadly understood.

We expect applicants to be related to one or more of the following social processes or dynamics: governance and practices of migration; making and unmaking of urban geographies; economies of gender and sexuality; reproductive rights and public health; technological interventions on the web of life; ecology of the human and more‑than‑human; and other interrogations of the structures of power that impinge on “life processes” and build upon a philosophical and sociological tradition centered on “biopower.”

Job Description: The University of Maine’s Department of Sociology seeks a dynamic, innovative scholar and teacher to join our small, collegial, undergraduate‑only department at Maine’s flagship land, and sea, and space‑grant institution. This is a tenure‑track, academic‑year position at the assistant professor level who will offer courses in the department’s new Criminal Justice major. The anticipated start date is September 1, 2026.

We invite applicants for a nine‑month, tenure‑track position as assistant professor with expertise in issues related to restorative justice, race/ethnicity, and the criminal justice system. Candidates should be able to teach courses in the criminal justice core curriculum, including Survey of Criminal Justice, Introduction to Criminology, and Research Methods; as well as electives in criminal justice and criminology such as Police and Society, Corrections, Criminal Courts, Race and Crime, and White‑Collar Crime.

Preference will be given to candidates able to teach Introduction to Sociology and Social Inequality. Quantitative expertise is strongly preferred. Our standard teaching load is 3‑2. This is an in‑person position. Consistent with the department’s emphasis on public sociology and the university’s vision as a community engaged campus, the candidate will be a publicly engaged scholar. The candidate must demonstrate an interest in, and preferably successful experience in, collaborative interdisciplinary research, teaching, and grantsmanship.
