- Adhere to laboratory procedures for collection, processing, analysis and reporting of patient test results.
- Follow quality control policies, document corrections for test system deviations and identify problems that may adversely affect test performance.
- Perform a wide variety of laboratory procedures requiring independent judgment using manual and automated methods in Hematology, Blood Bank, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Microbiology and Immunology.
- Maintain and document daily, weekly and monthly maintenance of instruments and equipment.
- Review accuracy of patient results prior to release or reporting.
- Recognize age‑specific differences in expected results for newborns to geriatrics.
- Perform proficiency testing samples in the same manner as patient samples and collaborate with other laboratories.
- May be required to perform venipuncture or capillary puncture on various age groups.
- Assist in development and maintenance of laboratory policies and procedures.
- Adhere to all department and hospital policies related to safety, infection control, emergency preparedness and human resources.
- Take on Lead Tech responsibilities during their shift in the absence of a supervisor.
- Perform tasks related to LIS and/or POCT as assigned.
- Other tasks may be assigned by the department manager/director.
- Meet the requirements of 493.1423 Standard;
Testing personnel qualifications. - Possess a current license issued by the State in which the laboratory is located if required.
- Meet one of the following: doctor of medicine/osteopathy, accredited degree in laboratory science, associate degree in laboratory science, high school graduate with military medical laboratory course, or documented training appropriate for the testing performed.
- Demonstrate skills for specimen collection, implementation of laboratory procedures, performance of each test method, preventive maintenance, instrument use, reagent storage, quality control implementation, influence of factors on test results and verification of patient test results.
- One year hospital laboratory work experience preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution.
- Current and valid state license if required by the laboratory location.
