Job Purpose and Summary

Within our Retail locations, Pharmacy Technicians play a critical role in supporting our pharmacy teams to consistently deliver on our brand promise.
As a Technician, you will support the pharmacy team in delivering operational and service excellence within your store. Technicians are often the first point of contact to assist our patients and customers, ensuring that prescriptions are filled promptly, safely, and accurately while exceeding patient expectations.
Technicians operate as part of the pharmacy team through consistent application of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), best practices, and effective communication, demonstrating genuine care and contributing to a safe and inclusive culture where all people feel valued and empowered.
Upfront training is required; duties may be restricted by the Pharmacy Manager until certifications and licensing are complete.
Responsibilities- Living our purpose by following all company SOPs at each workstation to support pharmacists in improving patient health.
- Following pharmacy workflow procedures for safe and accurate prescription fulfillment.
- Contributing to positive patient experiences through empathy, personalized moments, and compassionate problem‑solving.
- Completing basic inventory activities, such as put‑away, cycle counts, returns-to-stocks, and waiting bin inventories.
- Embracing a growth mindset, seeking feedback, and expanding clinical and technical knowledge.
- Remaining flexible for scheduling and business needs, including voluntary travel within the market.
- Complying with all federal, state, local laws, regulations, and CVS policies to ensure patient safety and privacy.
- Delivering additional patient health services (e.g., immunizations, point‑of‑care testing) when legally and programmatically permissible.
- Obtaining Technician Immunizer status through state‑required training and licensure.
- Educating patients about vaccination importance and referring to the pharmacist‑on‑duty for questions.
- Monitoring and responding to adverse reactions, reporting per public health rules.
- Reviewing and collecting patient data; tracking and documenting each applicable patient.
- Managing vaccine supplies.
- Must comply with any state board of pharmacy requirements or laws governing the practice of pharmacy, which includes but is not limited to age, education, and licensure/certification.
- State-level licensure and national certification requirements vary by state.
- Regular and predictable attendance, including nights and weekends.
- Ability to complete required training within the designated timeframe.
- Attention and focus on tasks and cutting checks for prescription accuracy.
- Customer service and team orientation, actively helping people and responding to patient reactions.
- Communication skills—verbal and written, active listening, clear instruction.
- Mathematical reasoning for calculating dosage and supplies.
- Problem resolution—choosing the best course of action in challenging interactions.
- Physical demands: mobile, upright periods, lifting, reaching, repetitive finger work, precise machine adjustments.
- Additional tasks as directed by Supervisor or Manager.
- 1‑3 years previous experience as a Pharmacy Technician.
- Experience in a pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service setting.
- Ability to work in the home store and travel across the market.
