Position Summary The Golf Course Irrigation Technician is responsible for the efficient operation, maintenance, and repair of the golf course irrigation system to ensure optimal turf health and playability. This position requires technical expertise, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while supporting the overall goals of the Golf Course Maintenance team.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- System Operation & Maintenance
- Operate, monitor, and adjust irrigation systems to meet turf and landscape water requirements.
- Inspect and maintain irrigation components including sprinkler heads, valves, controllers, and pumps.
- Diagnose and repair leaks, electrical faults, and mechanical failures promptly.
- Programming & Scheduling
- Program irrigation controllers based on weather conditions, turf needs, and water conservation practices.
- Maintain accurate records of irrigation schedules, repairs, and water usage.
- Preventive Maintenance
- Perform seasonal start-up and winterization of irrigation systems.
- Replace worn or damaged components such as sprinkler heads, solenoids, and wiring.
- Work closely with the Superintendent and Assistants to align irrigation practices with agronomic goals.
- Communicate system issues and recommend improvements for efficiency and sustainability.
- Safety & Compliance
- Follow all safety protocols and environmental regulations related to water use and chemical handling.
- Ensure compliance with local water restrictions and conservation guidelines.
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical training in irrigation systems preferred.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in golf course or landscape irrigation maintenance.
- Knowledge of irrigation hydraulics, electrical systems, and pump station operation.
- Ability to read and interpret irrigation maps and schematics.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and attention to detail.
- Valid driver’s license; ability to operate light equipment and tools safely.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Lift up to 50 lbs and perform tasks requiring sitting, digging, bending, kneeling, and standing for extended periods.
- Full-time; early mornings, weekends, and holidays as required during peak season.
- Hourly Rate: $22.00 – $28.00 per hour (DOE)
