Overview

With the emphasis firmly on grounds care machinery, you will develop skills and proficiency in a wide range of technical areas, from routine maintenance and servicing through to complex component overhauls utilising the very latest John Deere diagnostic equipment.

Responsibilities
  • Performing basic service tasks & developing skills in the removal and reconditioning of components
  • Progressing to perform more complex service & repair tasks, both at the dealership & out in the field
  • Assisting qualified Technicians as needed
  • Reporting weekly to a mentor or Service Manager regarding ongoing activities and progression
  • Maintaining the condition of inventory, tools & equipment
  • Following all safety rules and regulations, preparing and reinstating the work area for land-based engineering activities
  • Cleaning land-based machinery and equipment
  • Selecting and using PPE, tools and equipment required to undertake land-based engineering activities
  • Preparing land-based prime-movers, machinery and equipment for service, maintenance and repair activities
  • Preparing parts, components and sub-assemblies prior to reassembly, including inspecting, cleaning, refurbishing, sharpening, resealing, straightening, and balancing
  • Refitting and re-assembling parts, components and sub-assemblies, ensuring their compatibility and relationship including timing and alignment
  • Selecting the appropriate lifting, supporting and securing equipment
  • Applying thermal bonding and separation methods to join, fabricate and repair materials and components
  • Completing organisational documentation and reports
  • Carrying out work in compliance with legislative and organisational requirements
  • Lowering risk by lifting, supporting and securing loads, land-based machinery, equipment and assemblies
  • Setting up land-based prime movers, machinery and equipment to meet customer requirements
  • Connecting, attaching and fitting land-based machinery equipment to prime movers
  • Service and maintain land-based prime-movers, machinery and equipment to manufacturer s recommendations
  • Adopting safe working practices that ensure personal safety and the safety of others and the environment
  • Conducting static and basic operational inspections and checking compliance with legislative safety requirements and system tests to establish actions to be taken
  • Interrogating control systems to view error codes, reset indicators and verify software updates
  • Carrying out checks and tests to ensure prime-movers, machinery and equipment meet manufacturers  specifications before and after repair
  • Identifying and following technical documentation and performing hydraulic or electrical repair activities on land-based machinery
  • Performing transmission or engine repair activities on land-based machinery
  • Recording and interpreting technical information relating to land-based service, maintenance and repair operations
  • Applying the principles of customer care when dealing with internal and external customers relevant to own role
  • Maintaining service and warranty records, recording data and reporting findings to stakeholders
  • Carrying out pre-delivery inspections and conducting assembly as required on land-based equipment and prime movers
  • Checking settings and making adjustments on land-based equipment to meet customer requirements
  • Carrying out land-based machinery inspections
Qualifications & Skills
  • Level 2 Land-Based Service Engineer Apprenticeship Standard
  • Functional Skills in maths & English (if required)
  • GCSE in English & Maths (grade C/4 or above) or equivalent

Additional Information
  • Salary: £15,704 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age
  • Hours:

    Monday to Friday, 8.00am – 6.00pm;
    Saturdays may be required during busy periods (Shifts TBC). 40 hours a week
