Job Title: PMG Surgery Scheduler-ABQ

Overview

Surgery scheduling and coordination are critical components of patient care. It is a complex process of coordinating patients  personal schedules and needs, surgeons  schedules, access to hospital facilities and insurance authorizations. Must have strong communication skills to coordinate with clinic, surgeon, OR, ASC and outside personnel to ensure case accuracy from creation to completion.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with providers, patients, and internal/external stakeholders.
  • Manage complex provider schedules including OR schedules, ASC schedules and clinic schedules.
  • Ensure accuracy in scheduling and coordination for complex surgical procedures (e.g., total joint replacement, cardio-thoracic, robotic, minimally invasive, gynecologic oncology, breast oncology, etc.).
  • Ensure prior authorizations, certifications, and referrals are in place prior to procedure.
  • Collaborate on preoperative studies such as labs, diagnostic studies, physician consults, and clearances for upcoming surgeries and procedures.
  • Determine personnel and equipment required based on surgeon instruction and coordinate with OR/ASC staff.
  • Demonstrate strong verbal communication, problem solving, prioritization and organization.
  • Schedule all surgical procedures and ensure appropriate clinical and insurance coding information is collected.
  • Coordinate post-operative follow-up needs within the office and maintain daily, weekly, and monthly surgery schedules.
  • Manage daily operational changes (add-ons, delays, emergencies, cancellations, etc.).
  • Communicate with patients through various methods (in person, phone, MyChart, interpreter, etc.).
  • Assist clinical leadership with provider issues and serve as liaison between site staff and department for provider staffing functions.
  • Assist in the creation of provider schedules in a computerized staffing system and Epic templates.
  • Support operational standardization efforts as needed and demonstrate CARES behaviors (Collaborate, Accountable, Respect, Engage, Serve).
  • Make daily decisions independently and perform other duties as assigned, including meetings, ordering supplies, and coordinating service requests.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma/GED Required
  • A minimum of 18 months experience in a clinical setting
  • Previous one-on-one experience with surgeons required
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to function under pressure while maintaining professionalism
  • Familiarity with CPT and ICD-10 coding
