• Assist in the nursing and medical care of patients in the Emergency Department. Provide basic patient care; take and record vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, weight, height, blood pressure, intake-output). Provide oxygen therapy, IV access, phlebotomy, urinary catheterization, gastric lavage, suctioning, and apply cardiac monitor as directed.
• Assist with fracture reductions, cast or splint application; operate ECG machine and provide exams to appropriate attending.
• Observe patients to ensure safety and well-being; report observations to Charge Nurse or designee.
• Assist with activities of daily living (ADL): meals, ambulation, hygiene, linen changes, and toileting as instructed.
• Transport patients and collect/transport specimens, equipment, charts, and materials; maintain equipment and stock supplies.
• Provide routine and specialized patient care as directed; participate in patient safety initiatives and maintain compliance with hospital and departmental policies.
• Answer phones, operate computer systems, and perform related clerical duties as needed to support unit operations.

Education

• Essential: High School or GED Equivalent
• 1 of NA, MA, PCT, DD214, EMT-B, Nursing Program with clinical rotations

Nonessential:

• Associate Degree
• Bachelor's Degree

Experience

• Essential: 6 months of related experience

Credentials

• CPR for Healthcare/Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider or Professional Rescuers within 30 days

Physical Conditions

• Medium Work:
  Exerting 20 to 50 pounds occasionally, 10 to 25 pounds frequently; greater than negligible up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects. Physical demands may exceed those for Light Work.

• Significant hazards: physical risk/injury due to combative patients
• Tuberculosis testing required at hire and as needed
