Job Description Quality Engineer

Location:

Rincon, GA (On-Site)

Position Summary

The Quality Engineer is responsible for supporting and improving product quality, manufacturing processes, and compliance systems at the Rincon, GA transformer manufacturing facility. This role works closely with Operations, Engineering, Supply Chain, and Customers to ensure transformers meet internal specifications, customer requirements, and applicable industry standards.

The Quality Engineer plays a key role in root cause analysis, corrective actions, continuous improvement initiatives, and supplier quality performance while maintaining a strong on-floor presence.

Key Responsibilities Quality Systems & Compliance
  • Support and maintain the facility Quality Management System (QMS) in accordance with ISO 9001 and customer requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards such as IEEE, ANSI, NEMA, and UL where applicable.
  • Participate in internal, customer, and third-party audits and support corrective action closure.
Manufacturing Quality
  • Provide day-to-day quality engineering support on the production floor.
  • Develop, review, and improve inspection plans, control plans, and quality documentation.
  • Support first-article inspections, in-process inspections, and final product validation.
  • Assist in disposition of nonconforming material (MRB) and implement containment actions as needed.
Problem Solving & Continuous Improvement
  • Lead root cause analysis efforts using tools such as 8D, 5-Why, Fishbone, and FMEA.
  • Drive corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) and verify effectiveness.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce defects, scrap, rework, and warranty issues.
  • Support Lean, Kaizen, and Six Sigma initiatives across manufacturing operations.
  • Support supplier quality activities including incoming inspection, supplier corrective actions, and performance metrics.
  • Collaborate with Supply Chain on supplier development and quality improvement initiatives.
Customer Quality
  • Support customer quality concerns, returns, and field issues as required.
  • Participate in customer meetings, audits, and quality reviews.
  • Ensure timely and effective response to customer complaints and corrective actions.
Data & Reporting
  • Track and analyze quality KPIs including defects, scrap, rework, and audit findings.
  • Prepare quality reports and present findings to plant leadership.
  • Maintain accurate quality records and documentation.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Manufacturing, or related field).
  • 3+ years of Quality Engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with ISO 9001 quality systems.
  • Strong knowledge of root cause analysis and corrective action methodologies.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work cross-functionally on the shop floor.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in transformer, electrical equipment, or heavy industrial manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with IEEE, ANSI, NEMA, or UL standards.
  • Lean, Six Sigma, or quality certifications (CQE, Green Belt, etc.).
  • Experience with supplier quality and customer audits.
Physical & Work Environment
  • Manufacturing plant environment with regular presence on the shop floor.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and inspect manufacturing operations for extended periods.
  • Occasional travel may be required for supplier or customer support.
