Job Summary:
Under minimal supervision, performs diagnostic and service work on residential and/or light commercial HVAC equipment and accessories. Communicates with customers to answer questions, resolves problems, and ensures customer satisfaction. Promotes products and services to customers. Works under the direction of the Field Supervisor or General Manager.
- Works under minimal supervision to perform residential and/or light commercial service and maintenance calls
- Analyzes, diagnoses, and resolves customer problems in a courteous, professional, timely, and accurate manner
- Diagnoses and performs services on heating, air conditioning, ventilation, and refrigeration equipment as well as accessories in an accurate and timely manner
- Inspects equipment and performs diagnostics on equipment to identify potential problems to prevent premature and unexpected breakdowns or callbacks
- Completes routine maintenance and equipment cleaning as needed or required
- Responsible for delivery and removal of parts and equipment needed to complete service work
- Records all required information on a customer call using a handheld device and completes all forms and paperwork neatly, timely, completely, and accurately; collects payment from customer
- Communicates with dispatch to provide an accurate status report of activities and availability
- Delivers excellent customer service and sustains high levels of customer satisfaction
- Ensures company property, vehicles, and tools are used, maintained, and accounted for
- Represents the company professionally, honestly, and ethically in all business matters
- Follows standard procedures, ensures vehicle is stocked, returns defective warranty parts to the branch, and orders/replenishes vehicle stock as needed
- Performs similar/other duties as needed or assigned
Roles and Responsibilities
- Reports unsafe acts, conditions and hazards to supervisor immediately
- Reports contravention of legislation or policy to supervisor immediately
- Corrects substandard acts or conditions within area of control
- Uses and maintains appropriate PPE as prescribed
- Never removes or renders ineffective safety guards, devices, or clothing
- Complies with general company rules and operates equipment as prescribed
- Participates in safety initiatives and reports injuries or incidents
- Provides input on safety initiatives to eliminate exposures
- Does not engage in acts that endanger others; works in compliance with applicable laws
- High school diploma or GED, and 0-2 years of experience in a technical setting, or prior experience as an Installer or Maintenance Technician
- Valid licensing or certification as required for the geographical work area
- EPA and safety certifications required
- Knowledge of servicing heating, air conditioning, ventilation equipment and related accessories
- Proficient mechanical aptitude and ability to operate necessary tools and equipment
- Proficient at reading wiring diagrams and troubleshooting electrical, refrigerant, and duct systems
- Ability to start up and balance airflow; align belts and pulleys; install basic duct fittings
- Experience with troubleshooting and repairing electronic air cleaners, refrigeration systems, hot water systems, steam boiler systems, humidifiers, and related equipment
- Effective communication and time-management skills
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record; ability to work flexible hours and on-call shifts
- Physical ability to stand, walk, climb ladders, access attics/basements/crawl spaces, and lift up to 75 pounds
