Objective
:
To maintain the safety and cleanliness of the buildings and grounds on the Ridgeland campus.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform scheduled and assigned housekeeping assignments using standard custodial chemicals and finishes for cleaning, sanitizing, and disinfection.
  • Remove trash.
  • Move and assemble furniture and classroom equipment.
  • Perform grounds maintenance.
  • Perform building mechanical, electrical, and plumbing maintenance.
  • Check, correct, and report dangerous equipment conditions and potentially hazardous situations.
  • Take appropriate action to ensure the safety of themselves and others.
  • Assist in summer building clean up as directed.
  • Perform other duties and tasks as assigned.
Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee is required to reach with hands and arms above the head and reach forward. The employee continuously uses hand strength to grasp tools and climb on ladders.

The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk more than the average person while performing these duties. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move items over 50 lbs. Occasionally the employee will lift and/or move up to 90 lbs. The employee will sometimes push/pull items such as furniture, tables, and cabinets.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time, twelve-month position, and hours of work are generally Monday through Friday, 7:00am – 3:30pm. Frequent evening and weekend work will be required.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
  • Valid driver’s license required. Valid Class B CDL required.
  • Ability to pass background, MVR, and drug screenings.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty and staff.
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently around students from ages 3-18.
