This position is responsible for providing pharmacy services for the company and consumer through the appropriate evaluation of physician orders, compounding of sterile preparations, and safe dispensing of medications. The pharmacist provides pharmaceutical care, information and/or consultation to the patient and other healthcare professionals. The pharmacist may supervise the activities of pharmacy support personnel, as well as quality control and performance improvement procedures.

Shift: 8:00am to 6:30 pm (Four days per week, weekday only)

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Recognizes patients’ rights and responsibilities and supports them in the performance of job duties; respects patient’s rights to privacy and confidentiality.

Compounds patient specific sterile preparations for dispensing using aseptic technique.

  • Reviews, processes, and checks physician orders and patient medication profiles.
  • Maintains knowledge of USP chapter 797 to assure the quality, sterility, and stability of compounded sterile preparations.
  • Uses available resources to gather information on drugs, equipment, and patient monitoring.
  • Assists in the maintenance and cleaning of pharmacy work areas and the completion of quality control and performance improvement procedures as requested by the pharmacy manager.
  • Verifies syringe orders and compounds based on physicians’ instructions.
  • Prepares sterile medications for patient use assuring accuracy and sterility.
  • Processes prescriptions with quality checks to ensure appropriateness and accuracy.
  • Collaborates with other employees/departments to aid in directing work flow and assist in inventory control.
  • Follows up with prescribers regarding missing information on deficient prescriptions.
  • Garb (dress) into appropriate and distinctive cleanroom attire before entering the compounding area. This includes a full coverall with integrated hood, goggles, gloves, shoe covers, and a facemask in an effort to obtain 100% skin coverage.
  • Participates in initial training and competencies as well as ongoing training associated with the performance of job duties.
  • Acts as a resource and consultant to physicians, referral sources, and consumers regarding potential adverse reactions, and interactions, related to drugs dispensed.
  • Directly supervises pharmacy support personnel in the appropriate compounding, packaging, and labeling of compounded sterile products.
  • Maintains appropriate documentation of the care delivered to consumers and of drug prescriptions and compounding as described in the Pharmacy Policy and Procedure Manual and as mandated by individual State Board requirements.
  • Assists with employee orientation and preceptorship as needed.
  • Completes assigned paperwork/documents as directed in a timely manner.
  • Shares knowledge gained with other staff members and works as a team member.
  • Interacts with others in a positive, respectful, and considerate manner.
  • Performs other job related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Knowledge of laminar air flow theory and knowledge of drug stability and incompatibility.
  • Must be able to fully comply with garbing requirements outlined in the essential duties and responsibilities section as well as in company policies and procedures for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with employees, referral sources, physicians, and consumers.
  • Knowledgeable of current clinical issues, industry practice standards, and accreditation standards and ability to incorporate these standards into daily practice.
  • Demonstrates extreme attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Mathematic proficiency.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Good personal hygiene.
