Overview

Assists the pharmacist, under direct supervision, in the practice of pharmacy in accordance with state and federal regulations. Supports the Pharmacy Department duties in line with Company policies and procedures.

Responsibilities
  • Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions. If PTCB or ExCPT certified, assist with and coach pharmacy technicians in operating pharmacy systems and cashiers in operating the pharmacy cash registers.
  • Assist the pharmacist in the practice of pharmacy and in scheduling and maintaining workflow, under supervision, and in accordance with policy.
  • Report prescription errors immediately to the pharmacist on duty and adhere to Company policies and the Quality Improvement Program.
  • Register all related sales on the assigned cash register, handle cash as required, and assist customers in locating products.
  • Handle telephone calls that do not require the pharmacist’s personal attention.
  • Process (corrects and resubmits) manual claims for third-party prescription services and perform other clerical duties as assigned by the Pharmacy Manager.
  • Assist with inventory management activities, including ordering, unpacking, checking, storing shipments, and maintaining knowledge of asset protection techniques; file claims for overages, shortages, order errors or damaged goods involving Rx drugs.
  • May assist in administering clinical services, including collection and proper labeling of patient samples, and coordinate clinical services with Walgreens healthcare clinics and external providers.
  • Assist Pharmacy Manager and Staff Pharmacist in building and maintaining relationships with the local medical community through outreach and detailing to health groups, retirement homes, nursing homes, and other forums.
  • Assist with exterior and interior maintenance to ensure the Pharmacy Department is stocked with supplies and maintained in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures and maintain respectful relationships with coworkers. Complete special assignments as needed.
Customer Experience
  • Engage customers by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services. Resolve customer issues and answer questions to ensure a positive customer experience.
  • Model and share customer service best practices with all team members to deliver a distinctive and delightful customer experience, including interpersonal habits and Walgreens service traits.
  • Develop strong relationships with valuable customers.
Operations
  • Under the supervision of the pharmacist, assist in the practice of pharmacy in accordance with state, federal, and company policy. Review and comply with the Walgreens Pharmacy Code of Conduct.
  • Perform duties including entering patient and drug information, filling prescriptions, verifying medicine, and checking for interactions; assist pharmacists in scheduling and workflow management.
  • Adhere to Good Faith Dispensing policies during dispensing activities.
Training & Personal Development
  • Earn and maintain PTCB or ExCPT certification through the designated program; otherwise certification may be required for promotion.
  • Attend training and complete continuing education credits; maintain knowledge in healthcare and pharmacy developments.
Basic Qualifications
  • Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English (except in Puerto Rico).
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prefer six months of experience in a retail environment.
  • Prefer prior Walgreens experience.
  • Prefer good math skills for accurate prescription filling, including counting, measuring, and weighing medications.
  • Prefer good computer skills and knowledge of store inventory control.
  • Prefer PTCB or ExCPT certification.
