Job Description:

The primary responsibility of the Math Specialist is support of students as it relates to math improvement. Focusing on Common Core State Standard expectations and utilizing data to align instructional lessons is essential. The expectation is that the Math Specialist will use his/her expertise to assess student proficiency; identify specific areas of ability, needs and/or strength; develop an intervention plan; group students with similar needs for instruction;

provide individual and/or group instruction, and evaluate student performance. Additionally, the job includes maintaining student records of progress, and communicating with students, staff, and administration concerning progress and plans.

Responsibilities:

• Provide high quality mathematics instruction
• Use current and relevant assessment tools to identify students in need of intervention services
• Align instructional activities and materials with Common Core State Standards.
• Use data to align instruction to students in order to improve and accelerate math skills
• Collaborate with teachers, administration, and families to help identify best practices for individual and small groups of students
• Maintain data-based documentation of continuous monitoring of student performance and progress
• Provide data to the teacher, teams, and participates in decisions about student progress
• Lead small group, individual and whole group instruction as needed
• Support the needs of the school, staff, students, and families
• Communicate on a weekly basis student progress to administration
• Active participation in the school community
