Opportunity

We have an opportunity for a permanent Domestic Abuse Perpetrator role within the Families First Service.

The individual will be an expert within the Domestic VIolence field; providing high quality 1:1 and group work expertise and specialist case-consultancy to staff and other professionals working with families affected by violence and contributing to the development of Domestic violence informed practice and training.

Families First Model (FFM)

The Families First Model (FFM) is an innovative approach to safeguarding children and young people experiencing or at risk of harm. The model is underpinned by a strengths based ethos to identify and elicit positive changes for families. Multi‑agency workers will be co‑located within the Safeguarding Service to ensure collaborative, personalised delivery of whole family interventions to improve the lives of children and families.

Multi‑agency workers will undertake direct, specialist work with families, with a distinct focus on the Trio of Vulnerabilities (domestic abuse, substance misuse and mental health). Workers will share specialist advice and guidance with social workers in the statutory team they are based within, through effective group supervision and timely consultations.

Responsibilities
  • The post holder will work with perpetrators of domestic violence and abuse, to assess risk, and to engage with them to address their behavior using a strength-based approach and trauma informed practice to assist them in changing their behavior to effectively manage the risk.
  • Furthermore, the post holder will help perpetrators to understand their behaviours and their underlying beliefs and intentions as well as the effects of these behaviors on victims and children.
  • The post holder will co-work cases, working with the perpetrator independently from the allocated Social Worker or lead professional.
  • The post holder will contribute to developing our approach to working with perpetrators and victims of domestic abuse in line with the Domestic Violence Strategy.

Qualifications & Experience

The successful candidate will be:

  • Educated to a degree level with a relevant professional qualification or significant relevant experience of working with parents / families impacted by domestic violence
  • Significant experience working with hard to reach and challenging perpetrators with complex needs, including mental health and substance use issues, delivering one to one tailored support and a structured group programme.
  • Undertaking effective assessments of risk and needs, as well as delivering appropriate interventions to manage these.
