A Communication Technician 3 is responsible for the installation, planning, organizing and scheduling of communications cabling and equipment to complete assigned work orders, including assigning tasks, assuring the work is being installed in a high‑quality manner and performing quality inspections.

Responsibilities- Have knowledge of and understand the safe use of hand tools and various power tools
- Wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Follow Safety Policies and Procedures
- Actively participate in daily safety and work briefings
- Monitor task completion, compliance and prevent safety issues in accordance with all applicable plans, specifications, codes, and industry standards
- Oversee a crew of five (5) or more technicians and apprentices
- As a technician, have the work experience installing equipment using hand tools and power tools, a working understanding of Telecom Systems, blueprints and knowledge of codes and standards. Additionally, each technician must make every effort to become a qualified BICSI Technician. Telecom technicians are full‑time employees with company benefits
- Install various types of low‑voltage cable
- Install, inspect, terminate, test, and troubleshoot ISP/OSP telecommunications systems (Fiber Optics, Category 5, 6, 6A, and associated equipment such as pathways, cable trays, cabinets, racks, telecom devices, prefabricated components, assemblies, and telecommunications grounding systems)
- Survey and document existing telecommunications infrastructure such as copper and fiber cables, active and passive components using electronic devices
- Sketch rack elevations, floor and wall elevations
- Participate in design document reviews and activities to ensure timely, cost‑effective, and quality project outcomes
- Install, power up and connect fiber uplinks of network equipment into a telecommunications cabinet/rack
- Calculate grounding conductor, conduit sizing and raceway layouts
- Produce four‑week look‑ahead plans to include productivity planning for assigned scopes of work, material procurement/staging and tracking weekly productivity to plans
- Possess the ability to train and supervise apprentices in a team environment to facilitate installing cable from Telecommunication Rooms (TR) to work area outlets (WAO) while following drawings and run lists to ensure cables are installed methodically and arranged in proper bundles at TR for ease of dressing and termination
- Maintain accurate as‑built drawings—updated and logged onto master record contract drawings at least once a week
- Perform quality assurance checks of their team’s work ensuring cable install is performed within all applicable requirements
- Maintain a clean work area and participate in job‑site clean‑up
- Secure company tools and materials daily
- Up to 25 % travel may be required
- 6 + years prior experience in commercial communications industry
- 18 years of age
- High School diploma or GED required
- Must have an excellent safety record, a valid driver’s license, and a clean driving record to meet corporate eligibility requirements to drive a company‑owned vehicle
