General Summary

The Facilities Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing routine maintenance tasks for commercial buildings with a variety of facilities, including mechanical, HVAC (heating, ventilation, air conditioning), plumbing, carpentry, electricity, etc.

Major Responsibilities
  • Oversee specified facilities under the guidance of the supervisor, including mechanical, heating, air conditioning, ventilating, elevator, plumbing, life‑safety, etc.
  • Operate and maintain mechanical equipment, including but not limited to air compressors, chillers, cooling towers, and boilers (including high‑pressure boilers).
  • Ensure all assigned equipment and other facilities are functioning well and contact relevant service providers for special projects and annual preventative maintenance.
  • Maintain accurate records of equipment functioning status and other systems in buildings.
  • Other essential repairing work assigned by the supervisor, such as changing light bulbs, painting, door hardware repair, et al.
Job Requirements
  • Hands‑on experience with facility maintenance/mechanical repair work.
  • Basic understanding of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and building automation systems.
  • Ability to work in a team to handle mechanical operating and maintenance jobs with minimal guidance.
  • Ability to handle overtime tasks assigned and be on‑call for weekends and emergencies.
  • Good communication skills and detail oriented.
  • Minimum one year of facility work experience.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to climb ladders.
  • Ability to push 75 pounds and lift 50 pounds.
  • Ability to bend at the waist, sit, kneel, climb, walk, crouch as the job may require.
  • Ability to bear certain noise levels with hearing protection.
  • Experience working around lubricants, solvents, batteries, cleaning, dirt, and paints.
Environmental Working Conditions
  • Biological safety level (BSL) 1 and 2 laboratory and vivarium settings.
  • Potential exposure to disinfectants, chemicals, biologics, animal danger, and dust.
  • Normal scientific laboratory conditions.
  • May work with hazardous materials and unpleasant odors.

FLSA: Non‑Exempt

Pay Range: $25.00 – $35.00 per hour DOE.
