Are you a dynamic, results‑driven professional with a passion for helping businesses optimize their employee benefits? Virginia Asset Management is looking for a Benefits Consultant to join our team! The Benefits Consultant is a sales‑oriented position requiring advanced communication and negotiating skills, a thorough knowledge of group health and life products, and a proven ability to generate and close sales developed through leads from internal financial advisors, networking through local Chambers of Commerce and other business associations, and one’s own relationships.

About

the Role
  • Continuously source new business opportunities through referrals, industry events, and strategic networking.
  • Generate new sales through needs‑based analysis and a consultative approach to determine the group’s goals.
  • Consistently meet or surpass annual sales targets.
  • Partner with the account management team to obtain carrier quotes, prepare proposals and plan materials, and renew and enroll groups.
  • Present proposals to clients and conduct open enrollment meetings with the account management team.
  • Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of products, regulations, and technology by attending industry events and training to enhance your knowledge and sales expertise.
  • Call on clients regularly to build and maintain ongoing relationships.
  • Retain current business.
  • Attend office and company meetings, as necessary.
Skills Required
  • Proven success in prospecting and outside B2B (business‑to‑business) selling.
  • Experience with small to mid‑market companies (20‑250 employees).
  • Ability to partner with a variety of stakeholders, including business owners and human resources professionals.
  • Must be assertive – yet consultative.
  • Comfortable asking for introductions and referrals.
  • Strong community relationships and ability to network.
  • Excellent people skills and highly skilled in developing and fostering relationships with clients, insurance carriers, team members, and the community.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex insurance concepts clearly and concisely.
  • Meticulous with strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Possess technical expertise plus good analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Professional appearance and attitude.
  • Must be dependable, reliable, and punctual.
Additional Qualifications (not required to apply)
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting, or marketing preferred.
  • Life & Health License or ability to obtain within 90 days.
  • Two or more years of experience in the employee benefits or related industry preferred.
