Sitter & Barfoot Veterans Care Center is named for two Medal of Honor recipients – Colonel Van Barfoot and Colonel Carl Sitter – and provides quality care for Virginia’s Veterans. This single-level facility features 200 single-occupancy rooms across four nursing units: two 60-bed skilled nursing care units, one 40-bed skilled nursing care unit, and one 40-bed secure Alzheimer’s dementia unit.

Cook. Working hours are 11:45 AM - 8:15 PM and will include every other weekend.
Job Duties
- Prepare and serve food and meals in accordance with planned menus, diet plans, recipes, proper portion control, temperature procedures, and facility policies
- Review menus prior to tray line operation
- Review over produced foods and utilize as alternates
- Assist in checking trays for menu and diet preferences and accuracy
- Ensure proper storage of foods and supplies
- Assist the Director of Nutrition Services and/or Nutrition Supervisors in directing the activities of Nutrition employees
- Direct and assist in cleaning and sanitizing work areas, equipment, floors, dishes, and utensils; follow all safety, infection control, and sanitation guidelines; complete cleaning assignments
- Attend and participate in training and in-service education; assist in departmental orientation and training of other staff
- Assist in promoting positive relationships with residents, such as the Adopt a Veteran Program, family members, visitors, and co-workers
- Perform other duties that may be assigned
- High School Diploma, GED, or Equivalent Required
- 1 Year Prior Experience in a Kitchen/Culinary Setting Required
- Knowledge of food service operations
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively with others, including staff members and residents
- Ability to carry out the duties of the position with reasonable accommodations
- Ability to work overtime as needed to support the business/facility
- Three years' experience working in institutional food preparation or related field and experience working in skilled-nursing facilities also preferred
