Compliance Specialist
REPORTS TO:
Director of Affordable Housing Compliance
SUPERVISES: N/A
POSITION TYPE:
Full-Time, Exempt
SUMMARY OF POSITION: This position is responsible for essential audit functions of the Compliance Department. This will require a thorough knowledge of Federal regulations and State requirements of housing programs in which the company participates, as well as a working knowledge of the policies and procedures of SLN as they relate to resident and community policies. The Compliance Specialist will be required to keep abreast of all updates and changes in the Programs, perform compliance and policy audits of the communities, and provide technical assistance to the property staff in these areas.
The Compliance Specialist will be involved in all third-party compliance audits and will assist with training workshops for community staff. This position is considered an essential function to the operation of the Community, therefore, consistent attendance is an essential function of this position, as it directly impacts the employee's ability to perform their duties effectively and ensures proper workflow and communication within the team.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Attend compliance monitoring seminars as required by the state monitoring agencies and stay abreast of regulatory and procedural changes.
• Preapprove all move in files to ensure compliance before households are allowed to move in.
• Review recertification resident files for compliance with applicable Federal regulations, state requirements, and company policies. Make written recommendations for corrective action.
• Attend third party compliance reviews as required. Review corrective actions taken by site staff for completion and forward to the Director of Affordable Housing Compliance for further review and submission.
• In addition to group trainings, the Compliance Specialists continually train staff as they are on site auditing files. This gives the Specialist the opportunity to sit with the site staff, one-on-one, to discuss policies and procedures and to answer any questions.
