Medical Respiratory Intensive Care Unit (MRICU)
MRICU is a 28‑bed unit specializing in the care of patients with multisystem organ failure and complex pulmonary needs. Our patients include various respiratory disorders and failures, such as COPD, ARDS, status asthmatic us, and pneumonia, as well as sepsis, GI bleeds, DKA, oncologic, acute kidney and liver dysfunction, and acid‑base / metabolic imbalances. Through true collaboration with the professional team, MRICU nurses translate evidence‑based practice, quality improvement and research into bedside practice, advancing safe and quality care for all patients.
AssistantNurse Manager Responsibilities
The Assistant Nurse Manager provides unit leadership and management under the guidance and direction of the Nurse Manager.
Key responsibilities include:
- Human resources management, including onboarding, performance evaluations, and addressing staff grievances.
- Day‑to‑day unit operations, regulatory compliance, and risk management.
- Financial stewardship, including budgeting and resource allocation.
- Planning, organizing, coordinating, monitoring and evaluating patient care.
- Strategic planning and program development in collaboration with clinical leadership.
- Maintaining 24‑hour responsibility for the unit and ensuring continuous patient care.
All day‑to‑day operations of the unit are handled independently. Advice and guidance are sought from the Nurse Manager on an as‑needed basis and for major impacts.
Provides input into team member grievances, terminations, annual unit goals, and budget. Completes performance evaluations with final review by the Nurse Manager. Supervisory responsibilities include all team members assigned to the nursing unit.
Qualifications- Licensure and Certification
:
Current RN licensure in Virginia. AHA BLS Certification or equivalent. - Experience Required
:
Minimum of 3 years clinical experience, with at least 1 year in a lead, charge or supervisory nursing role. - Experience Preferred
:
Experience in an academic medical center, or similar patient population in acute care. - Education Required
:
Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from an accredited School of Nursing. - Education Preferred
:
Master’s Degree in Nursing or related field from an accredited program. Certification in a specialty area.
- Lifting 50–100 lbs.; prolonged standing, frequent bending, walking, climbing steps, reaching overhead, repetitive motion.
- Strong recall, reasoning, problem solving, hearing, clear speech, legible writing, reading, logical thinking.
- Ability to handle fast‑paced environment, multiple priorities, frequent customer interactions, noisy environment, adaptability to change.
