The Hematology Oncology Clinic at Stony Point is an extension of VCU Health Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center and provides care to surgery and oncology patients. Our nurses cross-train into infusion and may also have the opportunity to float to our Breast Health Clinic. We look for new team members who share our passion for oncology nursing and prioritize consistent high-quality patient care.
Clinic hours are Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. No weekends, nights, or holidays are required. Onsite parking is free at the Stony Point campus. Prior experience in the clinic setting or within oncology and/or infusion specialties is required.
- Demonstrate mastery of clinical skills and apply knowledge to a specific patient population.
- Assist the health care team with prevention of illness and injury, maintenance of wellness, and provision of comfort.
- Recognize changes in patient situations and intervene appropriately.
- Mobilize resources to meet individualized needs of patients and families.
- Provide direction, education, and assume leadership responsibilities at the unit level.
- Deliver and accurately document direct, age-specific care to patients based on medical orders and an integrated, multidisciplinary plan of care.
- Safely administer prescribed medications, identifying incompatibilities and interactions.
- Hire: Clin I, Clin II, Clin III — Current RN licensure in Virginia or eligible or compact state.
- Continued employment: Clin I, Clin II, Clin III — Current RN licensure in Virginia, AHA BLS HCP Certification or equivalent.
- Required: Clin I: N/A;
Clin II: 12 to 24 months RN experience;
Clin III: 3 years clinical experience. - Preferred: Clin I: experience as an LPN, nursing assistant, or care partner in an acute care setting or relevant to practice area;
Clin II/III: academic health care experience; experience with a similar patient population in an acute care setting or practice area.
- Required: Clin I–III:
Diploma or Associate’s degree from an approved nursing program. - All registered nurses without a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing must enroll in an approved RN-to-BSN program within two years of start date and complete within five years, unless grandfathered.
- Preferred: Clin I–III:
Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from an accredited program;
Clin III:
Certification in specialty area.
- Follows documented physician/licensed independent provider orders.
- Practices within Virginia nursing regulations; guided by the ANA Code of Ethics for Nursing and established practice standards; follows VCUHS policies and procedures.
- Clin I–III:
Organizes work and delegates/supervises others (RNs, LPNs, Care Partners, Unit Secretaries, etc.).

Lifting 20–50 lbs; exposure to potentially hazardous and infectious substances. - Activities:
Prolonged standing, prolonged sitting, frequent bending, walking, climbing, reaching. - Mental/Sensory:
Strong recall, reasoning, problem solving, hearing, speaking clearly, writing legibly, reading, logical thinking. - Emotional:
Fast-paced environment, steady pace, ability to handle multiple priorities, frequent and intense customer interactions, noisy environment.
