Registered Nurse (RN) Supplemental Staffing Float Pool – FT – Pediatrics – Nights

Tier 1 Supplemental Staffing RNs provide support to the organization by floating to multiple units and/or areas within the VCU Health System (VCUHS). This flex pool includes Registered Nurses who work within inpatient areas to include adults and/or pediatrics. The flex pool provides support 24/7 to VCUHS inpatient units, procedural areas, perioperative, and other specialties within VCUHS. Reassignment may occur in 4‑hour blocks and may include floating to other VCUHS facilities.
Clinical Nurse II and III roles demonstrate mastery and clinical knowledge at the unit level and provide leadership, education, and direct patient care. Their responsibilities include prevention of illness and injury, maintenance of wellness, provision of comfort, intervention with changing patient conditions, resource mobilization, and documentation of care. They also safely administer medications, identify interactions, and support multidisciplinary care planning.
Performance ExpectationsEmployee must complete 15 continuing education contact hours during the evaluation cycle.
Additional requirements:
Clinical Nurse III must complete 20 contact hours. Failure to meet required contact hours will result in eligibility issues.
Clinical Nurse II demonstrates competency in the nursing process, focus on assessment, appropriate plan of care adjustments, sound clinical decision‑making, and discharge care planning. Clinical Nurse III demonstrates advanced problem‑solving, proactive implementation of multidisciplinary care planning, and leadership.
Clinical Nurse II and III must develop and maintain therapeutic nurse‑patient relationships, provide education tailored to patient and family needs, and engage in leadership, collaboration, and professional development. They also participate in special projects and provide assistance to team members as needed.
Education and Training (Required)- Diploma or Associate’s Degree in Nursing from a professional program approved by the state Board of Nursing.
- All registered nurses without a Bachelor’s degree must enroll in an approved RN to BSN program within two years of employment and complete it within five years.
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (or higher) from an accredited program.
- Certification in a specialty area for Clinical Nurse III.
- Current RN licensure in Virginia or equivalent compact state.
- Clinical Nurse II: 12 to 24 months RN experience.
- Clinical Nurse III: 3 years of clinical experience.
- Academic health‑care experience; experience with similar patient populations in acute care or applicable area of practice.
- Follows documented physician or licensed independent provider orders.
- Processes within the regulatory boundaries of Virginia nursing practice.
- Guided by ANA Code of Ethics and national nursing practice standards.
- Collaborates with the VCUHS policies and procedures.
- Works all shifts, weekends, and holidays. Shift rotation and schedules established with Nurse Manager/Practice Manager.
- Physical:
Lifting 0–50 lbs. Exposure to hazardous and infectious substances. Ability to stand, sit, bend, walk, climb, reach overhead. Strong recall, reasoning, problem solving, communication, and writing skills.
