Medical-Surgical Care Unit is a 28-bed telemetry capable unit with capacity for 9-10 stepdown ICU beds. The MSCU focuses on caring for the adult population experiencing both chronic and acute illnesses with complex comorbidities and diverse social needs. The unit is fast paced and works with a diverse background of nurses, physicians, team members, and patients. We foster a unit culture that empowers our new and experienced nurses to provide compassionate, holistic care and challenge themselves professionally.
We use a Shared Governance model to drive changes in practice, encouraging all levels of team members to be part of the decision-making process. We place an emphasis on work-life balance and use AACN s Healthy Work Environment standards to guide our team. The Medical-Surgical Care Unit prides itself on having a high-reliability team that uses evidence-based practice to guide excellent patient care.
We strive for zero harm to patients, and hope that each patient leaves our unit feeling empowered to manage their disease, diagnosis, or treatment out in the community. The MSCU has achieved two Gold Beacon Awards from the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN). The leadership team takes a shared vision approach to ensure we meet the physical and emotional needs of our team members and patients.
The MSCU also strives to foster collegial relationships between a multidisciplinary team of physicians, care coordinators, nutrition, physical and occupational therapy, environmental services, etc. in effort to create a nurturing, caring, holistic environment for all patients.
