Provide nursing care within adult institutions by utilizing the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementing, and evaluating institutional patients per the standards of practice.

Standard of care includes 24-hour nursing care, telemedicine, chronic care clinics, sick call screenings/triage, medication administration, patient education, and emergency care.

Document all pertinent information into the health record while maintaining confidentiality and collaborating with other departments as needed.

Registered Nurses can delegate tasks, and work hours, days, and locations as assigned.

Registered Nurses must be capable and available to provide coverage to meet institutional needs.

Provide evidence-based nursing care and maintain competence through ongoing education and certification, focusing on correctional nursing.

Assignments to other duties or locations may be necessary to meet departmental needs.

This is a wage position limited to 1,500 hours per year (May 1 – April 30). The position offers no state benefits.

Minimum Qualifications: Valid unrestricted Virginia RN license (or NCLEX if recent graduate), Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through AHA or ARC.

Additional Considerations: Experience in a correctional setting preferred. Contract duration: 6 months.

• Coffeewood Correctional Center: 1 RN day shift (7a-730p)
• Nottoway Correctional Center: 3 RNs day shift (8a-830p)
• Virginia Correctional Center for Women: 2 RNs day shift (8a-830p), 1 RN night shift (8p-830a)
