Job Description

Title: Press Operator

Reports to: Production Manager

Summary: Operates Gravure Printing Press to produce “Best In Class” packaging for domestic and international use.

Responsibilities
  • Operate press to develop end-result printed material in accordance with customer specifications.
  • Operate press, troubleshoot and monitor operation; prepare press by performing make-ready tasks to produce a consistent, high quality product by matching inks and resolving defects. Make ready tasks include mixing inks and solvents, replenishing supplies, and adjusting the press to produce a high quality product.
  • Oversee roll stand service; check viscosity to maintain correct ink viscosity; keep solvent and ink containers filled; fill auto viscosity containers, solvent tanks and cans as needed.
  • Make adjustments, clear jams, and maintain speed and quality; ensure efficient and rapid make ready and loading/unloading of printing carriages and rotary tools.
Quality
  • Ensure quality of jobs by reviewing for quality and accuracy; ensure jobs are complete and error-free.
  • Inspect cartons for proper color, registration, cutting, creasing and defect-free output; ensure finished product meets or exceeds customer expectations; ensure all checklists are completed.
EHS and Clean
  • Adhere to EHS and Clean policies; assist team members in maintaining a clean and safe environment.
  • Maintain and follow company policies for safety, PPE, and hazardous materials/waste handling; wear PPE as required; store and arrange work areas to maintain a safe environment; coach press crew in safe work practices.
Communications
  • Interact with the team in a respectful manner; communicate accurate information professionally; accept direction and feedback from supervisor.
Leadership
  • Create and maintain a high-performance environment with positive leadership and strong team orientation. Develop the team and encourage members to perform correctly and efficiently. Communicate regularly with the team and provide feedback, initiating corrective action when goals are not met. Motivate crew and provide training as required. Conduct team meetings as needed.
  • Must be able to perform any and all work or additional tasks as required by Department Leads, Shift Leads, or Management.
Requirements
  • High School diploma (or GED) and a minimum of 3 years of press operation with Gravure printing and troubleshooting.
  • Proven interpersonal and communication skills; basic computer and mathematical skills to compute percentages, weights and measures.
Physical Demands
  • Prolonged standing, stooping, bending and/or reaching; balance, climbing, kneeling, crouching and manual dexterity.
  • Frequent lifting in excess of 60 lbs; close/distance/color/peripheral vision; ability to adjust focus and eye-hand coordination.
  • Ability to rotate shifts and work extended hours to meet customer product needs; repetitive duties as required.
