Press Operator

Overview

Brief Description The press operator is responsible for safely and efficiently operating process-specific equipment that prints material/product or prints and cuts material/product. This role involves operating Flexographic printing and/or printing-cutting machines to meet established production requirements and performing activities associated with safe machine operation, setup and changeover, and reporting any equipment malfunctions to management.

• Run orders to customer specification by operating printing or printing/cutting machines at established production rates.
• Read and interpret job orders and set up machine-specific feeder, stacker, rolls, print and/or die-cut, conveyor, and scrap conveyor sections of the machine.
• Maintain machine efficiency and quality by adjusting speed, tension, and alignment of printing and/or cutting or other settings as necessary.
• Perform process-specific changeovers to new runs by changing over plates, blankets, or cylinders and setting up materials for new orders.
• Use RF scanner to scan transactions to the Warehouse Management System and generate labels as required.

• Set up and verify feed sections (sheets/rolls) feed properly and discharge sections discharge and stack properly.
• Maintain quality and perform all required checks prior to production and at assigned inspection points throughout the process for product and ink quality.
• Install and ensure mounting is correct for machine-specific dies.

• Clean ink fountain and process-specific plates and printing unit cylinders when press runs are completed and when equipment is shut down.
• Maintain ink supply for one or more colors and verify ink conformance to quality.
• Replace machine-specific components such as doctor blades as necessary.
• Perform sanitation and housekeeping at printing and printing/cutting machines according to requirements.
• Perform machine service and scheduled preventative maintenance as required to maintain machine operation.
• Monitor inventory of press supplies and maintain supply levels.
• Make process-specific minor repairs to machine-specific printing plates and cutting dies and maintain organization and inventory of machine-specific printing plates and cutting dies.

• Record data on specified forms and complete required line documentation.

• Comply with all company policies and procedures including GMP, PPE, HACCP, LOTO, and JSA regulations.
• Responsible for ensuring, where applicable, the product safety, quality, regulatory compliance and legality of all products produced and sold.

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent or trade school preferred

Experience: Minimum of 2+ years of experience as a Press Operator or in a similar manufacturing role, with proven ability to multitask and perform effectively in a fast-paced production environment.

Other Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Demonstrated knowledge of machine operation, including electronic and/or manual machine controls, to safely and efficiently run production. Working knowledge of printing processes (flexographic), as well as mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems, is preferred. Ability to use an RF scanner for WMS transactions and to operate process-specific material handling equipment, including manual and electric pallet jacks, powered industrial trucks, and overhead cranes.

Must be able to read, understand, and comprehend work-related documents such as safety rules, internal quality procedures, and quality checklists, and effectively communicate production and machine issues to supervisors and team members.

Basic mathematical skills required, including counting and measurement using rulers and other measuring devices.

• Safety glasses with side shields, hearing protection, and steel-toed shoes are required. Task-specific PPE may be required.
• Manufacturing plant environment is not environmentally controlled. Changes in humidity and temperature occur throughout the year.

This position requires frequent use of hands and fingers for handling items and reaching, as well as regular movement throughout the work area, including bending. The role also involves standing for extended periods, occasional stationary tasks, climbing steps, and pushing or pulling objects. Candidates must be able to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
