Majorresponsibilities
The Ferrous Supervisor manages daily operations for iron scrap, focusing on leading teams, controlling material flow (sorting, processing, loading), ensuring quality/inventory, maintaining safety, and optimizing efficiency for profitability. Key duties include scheduling personnel/equipment, maintaining yard layout, overseeing processing, handling safety compliance, analyzing material, and reporting production metrics.
- Manage the daily operations of the Ferrous department.
- Adjust processing to meet production demands, improve inefficiencies, and meet shipping obligations (i.e., sales).
- Ensures perpetual inventory remains accurate throughout the month, and physically verifies the perpetual inventory on a periodic basis, by company standards.
- Coach, develop, and manage employees, including taking disciplinary steps as needed.
- Led and supported a lean operations strategy while ensuring industry-leading safety and environmental practices across the ferrous team.
- Lead the implementation of all aspects of the Sims EH&S Program (safety observations, incident investigations, critical control verifications, training, etc.) to ensure that our way of doing the job is always safe, environmentally responsible, and efficient.
- Conduct regular inspections across the facility and ensure corrective actions are implemented with the goal of operating as intended, in accordance with operational, environmental, and safety standards.
- Review inspections are completed by subordinates for accuracy and completeness and to ensure appropriate corrective actions are implemented.
- Work with the transportation and commercial teams to ensure that delivery deadlines are met.
- Lead and oversee the receiving of non-ferrous metal scrap/raw material.
- Assure proper grading, inspection, and pricing; communicate with the commercial team when received materials are not in conformance with specifications.
- Assure that all scrap suppliers experience superior customer service.
- Various other tasks will be required and assigned as needed for the continuous flow of operations at the facility.
- At least 3+ years of metal recycling and industrial experience preferred
- Prior knowledge of ferrous grading is a must
- At least 3+ years of supervisory experience
- High school diploma,
- A valid driver's license
