As a member of our team, you will report to the Project Manager. You will provide labor support for SOAR
365 at the Defense Supply Center. Your people skills will come in handy and will help you to maintain fantastic professional relationships with your fellow team members and those that we serve. - Performs preventative maintenance according to preventative maintenance plan and manufacturer's specifications
- Repairs gasoline and/or diesel engines used to power lawn mowers, string trimmers, backpack blowers and similar machines using appropriate tools
- Locates causes of trouble, dismantles engines, using appropriate tools, and examines parts for defects
- Replaces or repairs parts, such as rings and bearings, water pumps, thermostats, gears, solenoids, pistons, valves, crankshafts, etc. using appropriate tools
- Cleans and adjusts parts as needed such as carburetors, magnetos, etc.
- Adjusts points, valves, carburetors, distributors, spark plug gaps, using feeler gauges
- Maintains stock of manufacturer's recommended spare parts, advises Project Manager when parts need to be ordered
- Grinds, reams, rebores, and retaps parts to obtain specified clearances, using grinders, taps, reamers, boring machines, and micrometer
- Tests and inspects engine to determine malfunctions and locate missing and broken parts, using diagnostic instruments
- Performs routine maintenance on agency vehicles and janitorial equipment (vacuum cleaners and other janitorial equipment requiring maintenance)
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent, along with experience in engine or small engine repair
- Must have at least two years' experience and a demonstrated ability to operate, trouble shoot, and repair small engines
- Thorough working knowledge of all aspects of small engine repair and maintenance
- Mechanical knowledge of machines and tools, including their design, uses, repair, and maintenance
- Ability to operate and control small electric and gas-powered tools
- Demonstrated ability to perform repairs, routine maintenance, trouble shooting, quality control analysis, equipment installation, equipment selection
- Thorough knowledge of all tools used for these applications:
Hand tools, electric, pneumatic, etc. - Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Valid Virginia driver's license
- Excellent computer skills and the ability to learn new skills based on latest technology
