A nationally recognized family law firm is seeking a third-year law student to join its Richmond, VA office as a Law Clerk, with the intent to transition into an Associate Attorney role upon successful completion of the Virginia State Bar exam. This position provides a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in domestic relations law while developing core legal skills in a supportive and fast-paced environment.
Location:Richmond, Virginia
Duties:Conduct legal research related to family and domestic law matters
Draft legal documents, including pleadings and discovery materials
File pleadings in accordance with judicial procedures
Assist attorneys with trial preparation and strategy
Organize and maintain case files, including evidence and exhibits
Track and report billable hours
Communicate professionally with clients, court personnel, opposing counsel, and experts
Perform follow-ups on assigned matters and ensure deadlines are met
Handle other related tasks as assigned
Requirements:Must be in the process of taking or awaiting results from the Virginia State Bar exam
Demonstrated interest in family law or domestic relations legal practice
Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently in a deadline-driven environment
Strong attention to detail and organization
Education:Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school (pending graduation or recently graduated)
Certifications:Sitting for or awaiting results from the Virginia State Bar Exam
Skills:Excellent verbal and written communication abilities
Strong legal research and analytical skills
Proficiency in legal terminology and court procedures
Exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills
Discretion and professionalism in handling sensitive client matters
Technological proficiency, including Microsoft Office Suite
