Job Duties

This position is with the Court and Legal Services Unit located at Department of Corrections’ Headquarters in Richmond, Virginia. The Court and Legal Services Section operates to ensure the Virginia statutes and Virginia Department of Corrections policies and procedures governing the prisoner sentence computation process are accurately applied and that computations of sentences result in the establishment of accurate release dates for prisoners confined within the Virginia Department of Corrections and the local jails of Virginia.

Minimum Qualifications

Demonstrated ability to comprehend and interpret complex laws, legal documents and policies. Basic knowledge of the Code of Virginia as it pertains to criminal sentencing. Demonstrated working skills in operating automated equipment. Demonstrated knowledge of inmate-based practices. Ability to work independently and analyze and resolve problems with general guidance from supervision. Ability to adapt to changes in procedures, priorities and the automated system.

Establish and maintain effective working relationships inside and outside the work unit. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

Additional Considerations

Experience in a field related to criminal justice, especially in criminal procedures and records processes.
