Underwriting is a fascinating career involving research, data analysis, and making decisions based on judgement, and we’re seeking candidates to come in on the ground floor into our Associate Underwriter position. Our teams are extremely collaborative and give you the processes and tools to be successful, so you don’t need to have any underwriting experience to begin your career path as an Associate Underwriter.

A typical day as an Associate Underwriter might include…

• Underwriting commercial insurance risks: reviewing, analyzing, accepting, and declining risks to ensure profitability for Kinsale.
• Communicating with management on individual accounts, current and proposed producers, and recommendations concerning operations, systems, and procedures when appropriate.
• Underwriting and selecting new business that will produce an underwriting profit.
• Reviewing submissions to identify exposure/risk and determine accurate classifications, rates, and premium charges.
• Monitoring producers for profitability and production.
• Marketing products to producers by coordinating marketing plan with various stakeholders in and outside Underwriting
• Developing forms and coverages in partnership with others, as applicable.

• Excellent oral and written communications skills.
• PC literacy, with emphasis on Outlook, Word, and Excel.
• Strong analytical and organizational skills.
• A team-oriented, entrepreneurial spirit, seeking a flexible, spontaneous business environment.
• Professional experience demonstrating foundational decision-making, analytical, quantitative, and interpersonal skills, as well as room for growth.

A compelling candidate has…

• A Bachelor’s degree, especially in business, economics, risk management, STEM or related field.
• Advanced Excel skills, including comfort with V-Lookup and Pivot Table functions.
• Ability to maintain precision while moving quickly through workload.
