Product Design Manager - (Individual Contributor)

We’re currently seeking a Product Designer to join our Experience Design team. We’re passionate about creating memorable, meaningful product experiences that build the Capital One brand with humanity and drive business advantage and innovation.

About The Team

The Premium Design team defines the gold standard for Capital One’s high-spender customer experience ecosystem. Our work centers on creating highly useful, personalized, and high-impact products. This role is essential for driving the vision and crafting exceptional, end-to-end experiences that evolve and enhance the customer journey, delivering best-in-class card experiences and lifestyle benefits. You will collaborate closely with design craft leads, designers, and cross-functional partners to push creative boundaries while ensuring both significant business impact and compelling customer value.

Expectations

As a Product Designer, you’ll combine your craft expertise and leadership skills with an understanding of our customers and the business to co-create innovative solutions to complex problems and influence product strategy.

Here are some of the expected competencies for this role:

  • Product Design Expertise
    :
    Demonstrate a high degree of skill in product design, leveraging a variety of skills across interaction, visual and service design; in collaboration with cross-functional partners, inform the use of appropriate tools, platforms, frameworks and design systems and creates artifacts that may include journey maps, blueprints, high-fidelity designs and prototypes
  • Leadership
    :
    Lead design projects, directing and delegating work for more junior team members and building strong partnerships with cross-functional stakeholders while mentoring and helping to mature the design practice
  • Human-Centered
    :
    Navigate partner and stakeholder needs, leveraging critical-thinking skills that factor in data, research insights, scalability and tech constraints, while ensuring customer-centered and inclusive design
  • Business-Focused
    :
    Demonstrate proficiency with products and processes and apply insights on customers, competitors and market trends to business challenges
  • Problem-Solving
    :
    Understand tech and data capabilities and use this knowledge to inform work and help cross-functional teams move faster
  • Collaboration
    :
    Leverage partnerships across lines of business to foster collaboration and incorporate cross-functional perspectives
  • Communication
    :
    Present work across levels using a human-centered approach that integrates design frameworks, data and research insights to influence strategic decisions

The ideal candidate has a strong portfolio demonstrating leadership, process, results and impact.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of experience in a Product Design role
  • At least 5 years of experience in design and prototyping tools such as Figma

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least 6 years of experience in a Product Design role
  • At least 6 years of experience in design and prototyping tools such as Figma
  • Experience working with and contributing to an established design system
  • Experience collaborating with product, tech and business partners
  • Experience leading design projects or teams
  • Experience working in heavily regulated, data heavy problem spaces

Compensation and Benefits

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon hours worked. Location-specific ranges apply at hire.

  • Chicago, IL: $149,800 - $171,000 for Manager, Design
  • McLean, VA: $164,800 - $188,100 for Manager, Design
  • New York, NY: $179,700 - $205,100 for Manager, Design
  • Richmond, VA: $149,800 - $171,000 for Manager, Design

Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range of that location. The actual salary offered will be reflected in the offer letter. This role is eligible for performance-based incentive compensation.
