Position: Certified Medical Assistant CMA - Primary Care - Days

Overview

We are a busy Primary Care Clinic at the Ambulatory Care Center in downtown Richmond. We are a part of the Division of Internal Medicine Residency Program and support attending managed & resident managed clinics for all levels of primary care health needs and also urgent care needs. Our clinic hours are Monday-Friday 8am-5pm with some flexibility. No weekends, nights or holidays are required.

At least 1 year of RN experience, preferably in the clinic setting, is required and previous medical surgical and/or home health experience is beneficial. Diversity your nursing skill set with our team!

Job Summary

The Certified Medical Assistant provides direct, age-specific care to a patient or group of patients based on medical orders and the plan of care under the direction of the physician.

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements
  • Current Medical Assistant Certification through a recognized national professional association such as, the American Association of Medical Assistants, the American Medical Technologists, The National Association of Healthcare Professions, the American Registry of Medical Assistants, or the National Healthcare Association.

  • Current Medical Assistant Certification through a recognized national professional association such as, the American Association of Medical Assistants, the American Medical Technologists, The National Association of Healthcare Professions, the American Registry of Medical Assistants, or the National Healthcare Association.
Experience
  • Required:

    One (1) year of medical assistant work experience within the last three (3) years if individual is not a graduate of a medical assistant program
  • No work experience if individual is a graduate of a medical assistant program
  • Previous experience using a personal computer and various software applications, including Microsoft, e-mail, etc.
  • Demonstrated experience utilizing strong organizational, problem solving, communication and interpersonal skills
Experience Preferred
  • Two (2) to three (3) years of previous experience as a Certified Medical Assistant
  • Previous experience in an academic health care environment
Education/Training
  • Required:

    High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Preferred:
    Graduation from a Medical Assisting training program from an accredited program of study such as CAAHEP or ABHES
Independent actions
  • Functions under direction of a licensed independent practitioner, manager and/or RN in providing patient care, emotional support, and problem solving; all in accordance with hospital, nursing and unit policy/procedure.
  • Requires prior approval or guidance from supervisor: time/schedule changes; legal issues; directed care which deviates from standard; and identify educational resources to meet developmental needs.
  • Job duties may include the handling, transportation, access to and/or contact with medications and related supplies.

Additional position requirements
  • Certified Medical Assistants work all three shifts, weekends and holidays. Individual shift rotation and schedules will be established with your specific Nurse Manager/Practice Manager.
  • Schedules, including requirements of shift rotations and hours of work may be adjusted as necessary to meet clinic requirements and/or as needed.
