Overview
The Anesthesia Technician assists in the OR suites and off-floor sites in administering patient care as directed by the Anesthesiologist. The anesthesia technician sets up, moves, prepares and maintains all anesthesia machines, equipment and supplies for the Anesthesiologist. The Anesthesia Technician assists the Anesthesiologists with invasive and non-invasive monitoring. The Anesthesia Technician participates in the orientation, training and education of new personnel and maintains a safe and aseptic environment for all patients. This position performs all related duties as assigned and directed while adhering to the standards of nursing care and the policy and procedures of the Department of Anesthesiology.
The Anesthesia Technician reports to certified Anesthesia Technician Supervisor and the Chief CRNA.
- Assist in the operating room (OR) and off-floor sites in administering patient care as directed by the Anesthesiologist.
- Set up, move, prepare and maintain all anesthesia machines, equipment and supplies for the Anesthesiologist.
- Assist with invasive and non-invasive monitoring as part of the anesthesia team.
- Participate in orientation, training and education of new personnel; maintain a safe and aseptic environment for patients.
- Follow the standards of nursing care and Department of Anesthesiology policies and procedures.
- Report to the Supervisor (certified Anesthesia Technician) and the Chief CRNA.
- One of the following is required:
- Two years anesthesia support experience or EMT-B
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA)
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
- Licensure, Certification, Or Registration Requirements For Continued Employment: EMT-B; CMA; CCMA; or CNA required within 24 months of hire.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Required: One (1) year experience in health care.
- Preferred: One (1) year clinical experience in Recovery, ICU, Emergency Room, Operating Room, or Medical/Surgical Unit.
- Required: High School diploma or equivalent; and
- Successful Completion and Certification/licensure in one of the following:
- EMT-Basic Program
- Medical Assistant program
- State-recognized CNA program
- Successful Completion and Certification/licensure in one of the following:
- Preferred: Associate's Degree or coursework in biological sciences.
Follows the anesthesia providers’ orders, standards and guidelines. This position requires a highly motivated, self-directed and conscientious individual capable of functioning in a stressful and fast-paced environment with minimal supervision. This position requires excellent communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills. Job duties may include the handling, transportation, access to and/or contract with medication and related supplies.
